We are pleased to invite you to a special event in celebration of Jagoda Przybylak’s artistic legacy. As part of the ongoing exhibition ‘... must see’ at the Arton Foundation, we welcome you to visit Jagoda Przybylak's Conceptual Photography Studio on 15 November (Friday) from 17:00 at 31/33 Piwna St., Warsaw.

For decades, Jagoda Przybylak divided her life and work between Warsaw and New York, with her artistic journey beginning after her first exhibition, ‘100 times a net’ (1969). Returning to Warsaw, she transformed an attic into a creative hub, a space that would grow into the heart of her artistic process and a gathering point for creative minds. In 1980, she established the Conceptual Photography Studio, which became a pivotal space for the exchange of ideas and inspiration for many artists. Although Jagoda Przybylak spent time back in New York later in the 1970s, the studio continued to thrive under the care of her friend Janusz Bąkowski.

Today, Jerzy Dobrzański, an artist, designer, and curator of Jagoda Przybylak’s artistic legacy, preserves this important site. Thanks to his dedication, the studio was included in the Warsaw Historic Artistic Workshops list in 2024.

Jagoda Przybylak – photographer and architect. Born on February 1, 1929, in Warsaw, she spent her childhood in the Eastern Borderlands. She studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. Gradually becoming more interested in photography, she abandoned her career as an architect. Her first works took the form of reportage, resulting from observations of social life. A decisive moment for the artist's further work was her meeting with Zbigniew Dłubak, who influenced her development. Her mature artistic debut was the exhibition A Hundred Times the Grid at the Warsaw Photographic Society in 1969. She collaborated artistically several times with other creators, including Janusz Bąkowski and Krzysztof Wodiczko, with whom she created numerous photographic and film works. In the late 1970s, she moved to the USA and settled in New York. From 1980, her Conceptual Photography Studio operated on Piwna Street in Warsaw, which during her absence was run by Bąkowski; currently, this place is cared for by artist Jerzy Dobrzański. Jagoda Przybylak passed away in New York on December 28, 2023.
